Weather: Weather was marginal to non-operational during the period. Overcast middle and low clouds over North Korea. Occasional rain showers accompanied a frontal passage. Enemy Situation: Attacks by enemy groups of up to reinforced company strength against 1st US Marine Division positions near Panmunjom high-lighted activity during the period. Two enemy companies attacked a 3d ROK Division position near the Pukhan River and forced an outpost to withdraw. Elsewhere across the front, lighter probing attacks were made against UN positions. Mortar and artillery fire continued moderate to heavy in the western and central sectors, and decreased somewhat in the east-central sector. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 13-16 April is 6, 165, of which 3,515 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces repulsed hostile probing attacks and continued aggressive patrolling across the front. Raider elements from the 40th US Division seized two objectives southwest of Kumsong on 16 April without enemy contact. Earlier, tank elements in the same vicinity engaged an enemy battalion and reinforced company in dug-in positions. The IX Corps CP opened in the vicinity of Chongpyong, nine miles southwest of Kapyong. (FECOM) (SECRET b. I US Corps: On the night of 15-16 April, a reinforced enemy company attacked outpost positions of the 1st US Marine Division four miles northeast of Panmunjom.
