Weather: Weather during the period was generally good with overcast clouds with bases at 10,000 feet. Visibility good. Forecast: Overcast multi- layered clouds with bases at 8, 000 feet. Visibility 2-4 miles. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Company-size probing attacks west of Chorwon on the night of 14 May and north of Chorwon on the morning of 18 May highlighted enemy activity during the period. Smaller probing attacks were made against other UN positions across the front, including continued probing of ROK positions near the Imjin River in the western sector. Numerous enemy groups of squad and platoon size were engaged in the Pukhan River area. Mortar and artillery fire continued light to moderate across the front, with more than 700 rounds falling on 1st US Marine Division positions on each of two days of the period and more than 800 rounds on the 25th US Division positions on 18 May. Enemy mines were encountered near Komi- song in the eastern sector. The adjusted total of enemy vehicle sightings for 14-18 May is 12, 561, of which 7, 943 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN patrols continued to engage squad- to company size enemy groups across the front in daily engagements. UN artillery fired on numerous targets near the Imjin River in the western sector. The 187th Airborne RCT (reinforced) was relieved from assignment to the US XVI Corps and was assigned to the Eighth Army, attached to the 2d Logistical Command, effective 170630 (KT).
