1. Weather:
Broken and scattered clouds over Korea until late in the period. Visibility
unrestricted except during morning on northwest, west, and northeast coasts.
Temperatures ranged from 54 to 79 degrees. Forecast: Multilayered clouds and
scattered showers. Visibility 3 to 5 miles in haze and smoke in the morning.
Temperatures - 57 to 74 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Enemy activity was highlighted by a series of company- to battalion (minus)-
size attacks against elements of the 45th US Division in positions about 10 miles
west of Chorwon which were occupied on 6 June. Elsewhere across the front,
enemy activity was confined to patrol clashes and several small scale probes.
The largest probe was a company-strength attack against UN outpost positions on
the central front. Enemy artillery and mortar fire was heavy throughout the week,
totaling 33, 730 rounds over half of which fell in the I US Corps sector. The
highest daily total was 9, 955 rounds on 11 June, of which 5, 619 rounds fell on the
45th US Division sector. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for the period
8-11 June is 3, 884, of which 2, 718 were southbound. In the past week three fresh
Chinese Communist armies have been placed on the front by the relief of the
Sixty-fourth Army by the Fortieth Army; the relief of the Forty-second Army
by the Thirty=eighth Army; and the relief of the Twelfth Army by the Sixtieth
Army (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
United Nations forces continued aggressive patrol operations in all
sectors and repulsed several enemy probing attacks. Highlight of UN activity
was a raid by a United States battalion on enemy positions about 10 miles northeast
of Yonchon. This action was still continuing on 12 June. Elements of the 7th US
Division relieved the Colombian Battalion in positions three miles northwest of
Kumhwa on 10 June. (FECOM) (SECRET)
