Weather: Weather in Korea, during the period 3 - 6 July was generally cloudy, with scattered intermittent rain showers. Forecast: continued cloudy with scattered showers. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Enemy activity continued generally light throughout the period except in the west sector, where on 3 July, three battalion-size attacks were launched against U.N. positions west and southwest of Chorwon, in the 45th US Division sector. On 3 and 4 July, a series of platoon-size and smaller attacks were launched against 1st ROK and 3d US Divisions positions northwest of Yonchon. On 6 July, a total of seven probing attacks (two of company size with over 2, 500 rounds of mortar and artillery fire each) were launched against positions of the 1st US Marine Division northeast of Panmunjon. Elsewhere across the front throughout the period, activity was limited to minor probing attacks and scattered patrol clashes by groups generally less than company size. The reported total of mortar and artillery fire received during the period was 27, , 060 rounds, of which 6, 786 fell in the 1st Marine Division sector on 6 July. More than half of the total amount of mortar and artillery fire received fell in the I US Corps sector. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for the period 3 through 6 July is 5, 410, of which 2, 943 were southbound, (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: United Nations forces maintained positions and repulsed enemy probing attacks of up to battalion size in the west sector. U.N. raider groups up to company size encountered scattered enemy groups up to two companies in size in engagements up to two hours duration. The 3d US Infantry Division re- placed the 1st ROK Division in the line in the I US Corps sector southwest of Chorwon at 050225 (KT).
