NAVY: a. Naval and Marine aircraft flew a total of 1, 148 sorties over the four-day period, including 424 from BOXER, PHILIPPINE SEA and BON HOMME RICHARD on the east coast, 283 from BATAAN and OCEAN on the west coast, 40 by Patrons, and 401 by shore-based USMC. During the first three days of the period, east coast carrier aircraft flew interdiction missions from Songjin to Kojo, and struck electric stations, power houses, penstocks and transformer yards at Kyosen, Puryong, and Hoyangdong. Task Force 77 replenished on the last day of the period and conducted no air operations. West coast carrier aircraft struck targets along the coast from Chinnampo to Haeju and inland to Sariwon. 1st MAW flew 72 close support sorties for the 1st MarDiv. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET) b. On the east coast, the battleship IOWA, supported by 7 destroyer type vessels, bombarded targets at Chongjin, Songjin, Tanchon and Chaho. One destroyer escort fired on targets at Hungnam. Two.destroyers fired on targets at Wonsan. One heavy cruiser, supported by 2 destroyers, hit troop and gun positions at the bombline. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET) C. On the west coast, 4 destroyer type ships bombarded troop and gun positions in the Chodo-Sokto area and on the Ongjin Peninsula. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET) d.
