Weather: The weather through most of the period 25-27 August, was non-operational, becoming marginal at the end of the period. In the north there was much rain and long periods of heavy overcast. The combat zone had much rain with flood conditions in many of the rivers. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Enemy activity continued light during the period. Eight of the UN divisions reported no enemy contact on the first day, and seven reported no contact on the second and third days of the period. Activity was generally characterized by minor probing attacks except in the west sector on 25 August, where three enemy probing attacks were launched against 1st US Marine Division outpost positions on Hill 122, four miles east-northeast of Panmunjom. One of these attacks, by an estimated company later reinforced to battalion strength, resulted in a two hour and twenty minute engagement; the others were much shorter. On 26 August another brief attack was launched against the same positions. Elsewhere, there were scattered, generally light patrol clashes with small enemy groups. These clashes were highlighted by the stubborn opposition of one enemy platoon, supported by approximately 450 rounds of artillery and mortar fire, in the 3rd ROK Division sector southeast of Kumsong on 27 August. During this fight, the enemy suffered 17 killed in action. Hostile mortar and artillery fire for the period totalled 8, 475 rounds, of which 4, 124 rounds fell in the I US Corps sector ==Over half in the 1st Marine Division area. The total of mortar and artillery fire for the week ending 27 August, inclusive, was 24, 439 rounds, of which over 9, 500 fell-in the I U S Corps sector, over 6, 700 in the II ROK Corps sector, and approximately 5, 300 in the X US Corps sector. Sightings of enemy vehicle traffic for the three day period of this report totaled 342, of which 262 were southbound. One day's sight ings were negative and the other two days' sightings restricted, owing to poor weather. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: The United Nations forces in the west sector repulsed probing attacks up to battalion size during the first and second days of the period while UN troops in other sectors repulsed scattered minor probing attacks.
