Visibility was restricted until 1300 hours in the Seoul- Suwon-Chunchon area. Maximum battle area temperature 50 degrees; minimum 30. Forecast: The same general cloud and visibility conditions will prevail, with temperature lowering to a maximum of 45, minimum 25 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Activity increased in the western sector where a battalion attacked 9th ROK Division positions near Chorwon on the night of 18-19 December. Elsewhere, the enemy continued light probing attacks against UN positions. Three or four tanks were observed northwest of Chorwon. The adjusted total of vehicle sight- ings for 17-18 December is 1, 163, of which 807 were southbound. The I North Korean Corps has relieved elements of the VI North Korean Corps opposite ROK forces south of Kosong. The VI North Korean Corps is now carried unlocated. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces repulsed a battalion-strength probing attack northwest of Chorwon as well as other smaller probing attacks elsewhere across the front. UN patrols continued active against scattered small groups. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: Patrols from the 1st ROK and 1st British Common- wealth Divisions engaged groups up to platoon size west and north of Munsan, Elements of the 3d US Infantry Division repulsed two hostile probing attacks by groups of platoon and undetermined size northwest of Yonchon and west of Chorwon.
