- 3 - TRUNAM ASKEN "NATIONAL ARCHIVES AND REDORDS LIBRARY U.S. SERVICE" III. Working for prosperity. SOVERNMENT We know now that the prosperity of the country is all of a piece, and that if any one group or area suffers, it is bad for everybody. That is why we have government programs that benefit the farmer, and the worker and the businessman. IV. Importance of Congress. To do this we must have not only a President who will work for the people, but also a Congress that will vote in the interests of the people. You all know what happened back in Nineteen Hundred and Forty-seven and Nineteen Hundred and Forty-eight when we got that good-for-nothing Republican Eightieth Congress.
