H: I need some sort of argument for New York. We would like to
talk to you and get some of the sequence like you gave at the luncheon.
K: You cannot use that. As for the rest you are free to write what was
in the public record.
H:
I am worried about what the President said Monday night when he
used in or from was he elaborating on his own just as he did on
bombing? Is talking about that type of thing going to rock the boat.
K: That is the sort of thing I will not comment on this week. There
are two separate things - - I will not talk this week at all. I do not
think it is in the national interest to speculate at all.
H: On what?
K: On what was agreed and not agreed and starting a new round of
speculation. I think it is NOX the interests
of everybody
not to start this. This is not something we are trying to run from. It
does not make us look bad but it is best if we do not say anything.
H: Were they a little disturbed by this.
K: No
H: No that is not fair to ask.
K: No. I will be in a much better position to discuss it a week from now
about this time. I will promise that I will talk to no one else before I
talk to you. You will not write any of what I have just said now.
H: Of course not. This is off the record.
