business facilities and MFM that we need and lend-lease, so my
strategy is to tell this Maritime minister to go off for a few days
and have him come back along about Tuesday and by then Henry we
will know what our other problems are and I would propose that
we sit down with Dobrynin and sayhere is the package--
HK:
Okay, well, let me see what these other problems are at that point--
and let's decide that on Monday.
PP:
What do you think of telling the Maritime Minister that he can take
off for a few days--he - - is sitting there knowing not what to do,
and I just telling him that it is going to take a while--
HIK:
Why don't you let him work it with Dobrynin--you can tell him it
will take us a few days to figure it out.
PP:
Right that's what the question is--what he should do
HK:
But don't tell him we might yield.
PP:
Oh Christ no. Just the opposite--tell him this is a difficult problem
and we are just going to--we don't have an answer for him--the
proposal that we came up with was unacceptable.
HK:
Okay. Good.
PP:
All right, Henry, now the announcement is Thursday ?
HK:
Thursday.
PP.:
Fine.
