Page 3 HK: Do you see any change ? NR: No, I don't. I really don't. I think it is fascinating. HK: I think McGovern is--or so turns people off, in fact I think our support is a little misleading. People are --take Watergate- People are not for wiretapping, they just don't want to face the on consequences of taking it in. NR: Exactly. HK: And I am not even sure they are supporting us on Vietnam. But if they oppose us on Vietnam, they have got to vote for McGovern which they are determined not to do. NR: It is absolutely fascinting- as you say misleading situation--unique I think, unless you use the Johnson/Goldwater HK: Yeh, but Goldwater was a recognized oddball in a minority party that had no chance of winning. NR: That's right. We now we have to keep our fingers crossed and I have been working very hard here, we had a most successful labor rally for him which he spoke to 60-80 leaders and did very weel. He's doing lawfully well in his speeches. HK: Oh really NR: I think so. I was with him the two days he was here--he's in a relaxed good shape. So if we can just keep you--we are all riding on you on this. HK: Well, we'll do our best. NR: I think if you keep the ball in the air just the way you are doing for another two weeks-- HK: Oh, well that I am guaranteeing you. NR: If you can do that for another two weeks-- HK: That is guaranteed. I can keep the ball in the air for another two weeks and with lunk for another four weeks, then with real ludh we may bring it off.
