Wednesday, August 01, 2007 Page 1 of 1 Downy - 70 letters are being sect to People in investment industry- Janifer N X N NIXON FOR GOVERNOR 3908 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles 5, California; DU 5-9161 October 23, 1962 Dear Dick Nixon carried California in 1960 because the Republican party turned out a big vote. This was primarily the result of a large and well-organized Victory Squad that operated on election day. Dick Nixon will be our next governor if we can duplicate that effort in 1962. Los Angeles County needs 10,000 volunteers to work in the precincts between 3:00 and 7:00 P.M. on November 6th. Because the stock exchanges will be closed that day, our industry has an excellent opportunity of contributing materially to a Republican victory. Many feel that the future of the Republican party rests on the results of the California Gubernatorial race. Would you please ask your representatives and employees to help bring this campaign to a successful climax by donating part of their after- noon on election day to work on the Victory Squad. Please have them fill out and mail the enclosed cards today. These cards will be pro- cessed and precincts assigned by an IBM machine that must have this information by this Friday, October 26th. If each firm could send in ten to fifteen names we would be doing our part to assure a victory. Please call me if you need more cards. Let's WIN WITH NIXON: Sincerely yours, Richard A. Miller General Partner Hornblower & Weeks Please excuse the use of this mimeographed letter necessitated by Friday's deadline. 1 Drowny Wright Dorothy - 40 of these are being mailed to all College young Republican chairmen of all Calegiaus for Nixon chairwen Serifer N X N NIXON FOR GOVERNOR 3908 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles 5, California; DU 5-9161 Dear It looks like a close one. The outcome of this election will depend upon how many workers the respective candidates can produce for election day and for the absentee ballot drive. As I am sure you know, the law on absentee ballots has been changed. They must be in the hands of the election officials three days before election day. This was put through the legislature by Unruh and Brown to cut down on the absentee voting which gave Nixon Cali- fornia in '60. It will probably do it too. In an off-year election it is extremely difficult to generate a great deal of enthusiasm in voters. Therefore, they usually don't turn out to the polls in too great numbers unless someone works the area. This is where you come in. In this election the workers will win it for Nixon -- if we can get them out. Could you help us line up some workers for the four hours (3 - 7 p.m.) on election day which will make the difference between victory and defeat? It's up to you in '62! Sincerely, Harold Phillips 1
