(10-15 minutes) I. PUR POSE To introduce the 1971 White House Summer Interns to you in order to cap their summer experience and send them back to their campuses with the highest enthusiasm and respect for the process of government and for this Administration. II. BACKGROUND, PARTICIPANTS, PRESS PLAN AND STAFF A. Background: This summer, as in the previous two summers, we have brought on board a few carefully selected college and graduate students to work in various staff offices. The purpose of this is to expose these young people to the men who manage the nation's affairs and to see the workings of the White House. To this end the interns have had conver- sations with most of the key White House staffers. They have handled themselves very well, both in their jobs and in their meetings. B. Participants: 20 students - 13 men, 7 young ladies, from 20 schools and 10 states. (See Attachment A) Staff present will be Fred Malek and Jerry Jones. C. Press Plan: Ollie will take photos of each intern meeting you; then there will be a photo opportunity as soon as the group is congregated along the east side of the Oval Office.
