THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON DROP BY AT THE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN NATIONAL CENTER FOR VOLUNTARY ACTION AWARDS DINNER Thursday, February 10, 1972 7:00 P. M. Kennedy Center - North Gallery BLACK TIE THE PRESIDENT: BACKGROUND The National Center for Voluntary Action is holding its first Awards Dinner on February 10 at the Kennedy Center. The dinner will be attended by approximately 400 people and one of its purposes is to provide high visibility for the NCVA. The Awards which are to be presented are the former "Lane Bryant¹¹ Awards which have been presented annually by the Lane Bryant Company for the last 23 years. Now that there is a national organization that deals with voluntary activities (NCVA), the selection and presentation process for these Awards has been transferred to NCVA. This activity by the organization will lend it additional prestige. There are two categories of Awards: Group Effort. Individual Effort. The recipient of the Group Effort Award is SERVE (Serve and Enrich Retirement by Volunteer Experience), a voluntary retirement action group from New York. The Individual Effort Award will be presented to Mrs. Annette Giles of Pearlington, Mississippi, a Black who has raised 40 retarded children over the last 40 years. The Awards are in the form of plaques which you will present just prior to your remarks at the dinner. After the dinner, the checks for $5,000 will be presented to the recipients.
