NBC lead and all nets w/ film on McG -- with an "eager" Shriver
at his side -- meetings with Dem mayors, governors and DNC in
an effort to mend fences. And the DNC avoided more McG-Dem
regular feuds by postponing selection of at-large members 'til
after the election.
H.K. Smith criticizes McG's "Come Home
America" slogan as reminiscent of Fortress America and warns
Dems off possible danger of slogan in view of much improved
internatl. situation.

Film on all nets (ABC lead) of Connally formally announcing
Dems for RN. JBC's announcement was expected, noted CBS
Petit, but "the depth of Dem support" -- like LBJ aides Marks
and Christiansen -- wasn't. Connally says it'll be a "tough,
