The major stories of day w/Watergate receiving 10-12 minutes on
all nets:

According to CIA memo of Walters obtained by NBC, RN was
warned of coverup less than month after burglary. Chancellor
noted RN's recent denials of any such knowledge but, said Duke,
memo, authenticity of which NBC doesn't question, says RN was
aware thru Gray as early as last July that subordinates tried to
cover up. Memo on screen in NBC lead story w/Gray-Walters
sharing opinion that RN should get rid of those involved and that
coverup would not work.

Walters memo that HRH said 6 days after break-in that it was
"RN's wish" that FBI stay out of probe on Mexican laundering of
funds was ABC/CBS lead and followed NBC's exclusive. Helms on
film on all nets saying he didn't precisely recall HRH using RN's
name but he assumed such authority was there

interview said RN was not involved in any way and that'll be made
clear
All nets briefly noted, ABC-CBS mentioning Tom Huston's
testimony, Symington's revelation of WH plans -- never implemented
to permit burglaries and other violations of law in domestic
intelligence operations.

Cox-Richardson before pleased Senators on film on all nets -- #2
on NBC/CBS - w/it made clear the "big, blunt, liberal Dem" (NBC)
from Harvard is ready to pursue case w/full independence wherever
it may lead, including, "Heaven forbid" in Bob Byrd's view, the
Oval Office. NBC said Cox had "extraordinary powers"; CBS
called it "awesome authority.

HKS called for major speed-up
in Senate probe w/calling of HRH/JDE/Dean/Mitchell now to
enable the inquiry to get at the 1 key question: Is R.N innocent or
guilty? That must be answered if Gov't is to operate, said HKS.
A "grim, tight-lipped" (NBC) Mitchell ignored press and, said
ABC, "seemed shaken" as he left for court to plead in "firm,
clearly audible" tones (NBC) that he's innocent of perjury-conspiracy
charges in Vesco case. Similar plea by Stans and Harry Sears.
