OFFICE JUN OF PRESIDENT
The Honorable Richard Nixon
Vice President of the United States
Washington, D. C.
RECE fee June 4,1957
My dear Mr. Vice President:
I do appreciate your letter of May 22. We shall count on your letting
US know in advance if it appears possible for you to include a visit to
Bob Jones University on any trip you might be making in this area.
We will clear the platform for you at any time you can come. We
would like for you to talk on some subject like "The World Outlook
from the American Viewpoint." =
It takes just a little time to fly down here from Washington and back;
and even if you are not going to be in this section, we would be glad
to have you come. We do not feature our summer school and have only
a small group, but we will have a big opening here in September.
I am, with best wishes,
Sincerely yours,
Bob Jones

The Honorable Richard Nixon
Vice President of the United States

My dear Mr. Nixon:
Thank you very much for your letter of January 15.
Sometime when I am in Washington, I will contact you and try
to stop by your office for a little visit. I note what you say
about some of the problems we face in government today. We
are undoubtedly facing the greatest perils we have ever faced.
The job is too big for mortal man. Nobody but God can fix
things.
We pray for you and the President and all who are in power
because so many things are happening everywhere. God bless
you.
Sincerely yours,
Founder Brob Jones.

Dear Reverend Jones:
Before the Inauguration next Monday, I wanted
to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for your
thoughful letter of November 7.
I know of Bob Jones University through a number
of mutual friends as well as through some of your fine
graduates. I saw Jack Shuler when I was campaigning in
the State of Washington, and had a nice visit with him. He
is certainly a fine representative of both Whittier College
and of Bob Jones University.
I do hope that when you happen to be in Washington
that you can stop by the office for a visit. I would enjoy
talking with you about some of the problems we face in
government today.
With every good wish for the New Year,
Sincerely,

Dear Reverend Jones:
Unfortunately my personal correspondence
has been considerably neglected due to the heavy
demands made upon my time since the election and
it is for that reason that I am only now able to reply
to your kind letter of November 7.
It is with deep gratification that I look
forward to the honor of again serving with President
Eisenhower. Your good wishes and warm expression
of confidence in me are greatly appreciated and I
certainly hope that when you are in Washington, I
shall have the opportunity of meeting you. I have heard
a great deal about the Bob Jones University and the
great work that you have done there.
With very best wishes,

The Honorable Richard Nixon
Vice President of the United States
Washington, D. C.
My dear Sir:
I was seventy-three years old a few days ago. I began my ministry as a country boy in
Southeast Alabama when I was thirteen years old, and my work has taken me to all the
states and to many foreign countries. I have spent my life preaching the Gospel and deal-
ing with people.
I happen to be the founder of Bob Jones University, but I do not claim great scholarship.
I have, however, made a speciality all my life of studying men. I always watch how a
man meets a crisis. I want to congratulate you on the courage and the dignity of your
approach to the issues of the political campaign which has just come to a close.
I
sympathize with you in the sorrow that came to you in the loss of your father. In my heart
I prayed for you at that time. My son, Bob, Jr., is president of this University; and I know
just how a father feels about a son.
Now, Mr. Vice President, I believe God has some wonderful things in store for you and a
great job for you to do; and I just wanted to tell you, as an old veteran whose temptation
has always been to go into politics but who has spent his life preaching the Gospel and help-
ing other men in politics (both United States Senators from South Carolina and Senator Carlson
are on our Board) and also helping them in a spiritual way, that I am going to pray for you.
It might be that you are God's man for this day.
Excuse the long letter, but I wanted to tell you that Evangelist Jack Shuler was converted
on Bob Jones University campus. I know him well and have great confidence in him. Jack
told me he was in college with you; and when you were elected Vice President, he told
me that you were going to make good and would be a great leader. Sometime when I
happen to be in Washington, I hope I will have the privilege of dropping around and meet-
ing you. May God bless you.
Sincerely yours,
Bol Jour Founder and Chairman of the
