Y.\nMy dear Barker:\nI judge from your letter regarding the enclosure of a\nletter from Arthur H. Thomas to Doctor Flinn, that you are somewhat\nmystified and I do not wonder at it at all, so I will try to explain\nhow it happened that I sent this quotation from Arthur H. Thomas to\nDoctor Flinn.\nWe are conducting our tests for radioactivity on the\nair of the crystallizing room in Schweitzer Hall and I secured from\nArthur H. Thomas a quotation on a Gas Bagy Such a one as Dr. Flinn\nand I used on our trip to Waterbury Connecticut. I sent this quota-\ntion on to Doctor Flinn to find out whether the two accessory valves\nlisted in the letter were the right type and to find out, moreover,\nwhether these two valves would complete the outfit. The letter, in\nother words, has nothing to do with the work which we are contemplat-\ning.\nI have just received a letter from Dr. Marden and he says\nthat a letter from Mrs. Marden to Mrs. Schlundt is on the way which will\ntell more definitely about their proposed trip west. I take it, however,\nthat he expects to be in Columbia for a few days about the second week\nin August.\nI hope that you will have a fine vacation. When you get\ninto Canada please take in the Muskoka Lakes which I judge are about one\nhundred and fifty miles north of Toronto. One of the resorts is called\nCleveland and the other is Gregory, I think. There is a golf course\nnearby or across the lake and rates are moderate.\nWe have had two weeks of very warm weather---the thermo-\nmeter running up above ninety degrees every day.
