Craver,\nMemorial Hospital,\n2 West 106th St.,\nNew York City.\nDear Dr. Craver:\nI am herewith sending you three copies of a preliminary\ndraft of an article, which we propose to submit for publication as soon as\ncompleted, on experiments conducted for detecting radium and mesothorium in\nliving persons.\nThis is in accordance with the conversation which Dr. Flinn,\nDr. Schlundt and the writer had with you on September lst. We are sending\nyou three copies of this report believing that you may be interested in hand-\ning a copy to each of the members of the Committee.\nAs you understand this information is confidential, although we\nexpect to publish same as soon as a few additional experiments have been completed\nto round out the paper. We believe that these experiments constitute a real\ngenuine contribution to this phase of our problem, and are based upon a very\nextensive and thorough survey of the field.\nReferring to your statement that you would suggest that Dr.\nFialla proceed at once with the assembly of the equipment necessary to conduct\nthe test for the presence of radio-activity in the five girls under examination,\nallow me to advise that we should be glad to place at Dr. Fialla's disposal\nthe equipment which we have, and which for the most part was used in our report.\nAs you appreciate, considerable time would be saved in the event that Dr.Fialla\nwould elect to utilize this equipment rather than ordering new equipment.\nI recall that Dr. Flinn has in his possession the X-ray plates\nof Mrs. Dumschott, a case in Connecticut which is suffering from so-called\n\"radium poisoning\". Dunschott contains in the neighborhood of 100 micro-\ngrams of radium element, and I an wondering if you, and perhaps the other members\nof your Committee, would be interested in seeing these plates. I am not certain\nbut believe that Dr. Flinn also has plates of the Dunn case. Miss Dunn passed\naway about a year ago.\nIn case you are interested I am quite certain that\nDr. Flinn would be glad to submit these plates for your examination.\nI am also enclosing a newspaper clipping from the \"Newark News\"\nof September 22nd, which may be of casual interest to you. Inasmuch as this\nis the only copy of this particular clipping which we possess we would appreciate\nyour returning it to us.\nI hope that Mr. Lee and I will have an opportunity to discuss the\nentire situation with you further some day the early part of next week.\nWith kind regards, I am\nVery truly yours,\nHHBarker: :RH enclosures\nVice President."
