February 18th,1929. Dr. James Bwing, Department of Pathology, First Avenue and 28th St., N.Y.C. Dear Dr. Ewing: Answoring your letter of February lst, regarding the dental work to be done for Mrs. Larice: We outlined our position in this matter to you on last Thursday, which is that we are very anxious to keep the expenses within the provision of the settlement agreement, and there is a question in our rinds as to whether this dental work would come under the term of reasonable medical service. However, this might be considered as extraordinary or unusual treatment for the purpose of curing Mrs. Larice from the effects of "radium poisoning", and if so you have our authorization to proceed with the work, since the medical commission have recommend- ed it. We want to be eminently fair in this matter, but can see where a precedent might be established for rather far reaching expenditures. The girls were each paid a sum of $10,000 and receive a pension of $600.00 a year, and therefore, should be in a. financial position to bear at least part or all of an expense such as this, which cannot clearly be brought within the terms of the settlement agreement. lie wish you to feel, however, that we appreciate the efforts of the medical commission and wish to cooperate to as full an extent as is possible. Very truly yours, President. CBLee:RH
