September 941930. Public Ledger Library, Independence Square, Phila., Pa. Gentlemen: In answer to your inquiry of September 5th, we must advise that Miss Katherine Schaub, Mrs. Albina Larice and Mrs. Edna Hussman, are under the care and supervision of a Committee of doctors appointed by the Court to supervise their care as well as releasing any authentic information for the public relative to these girls. Dr. James Ewing, of Cornell University Medical College, lst Ave. and 28th St., N.Y.C., is Chairman of this Committee, and we feel that the type of informa- tion which you request should be supplied by Dr. Ewing and his Committee, and them only. Relative to question #4: We are glad to state that the method now used in applying luminous material to watch, clock dials, etc., is so conducted that the employees health is not jeopardized. It is generally believed that all this trouble arose from the practice of pointing the camel's hair brushes, used to paint the numerals of fine watch dials, with the lips, thereby introducing a small amount of the mixture containing the radio- active materials into the alimentary bract. With the elimination of this practice of pointing the brushwith the lips and other protective measures generally agreed upon, it is felt that the work is entirely without hazard. Very truly yours, Vice President. HHBarker: RH
