ON My EIGHTY-SECOND BIRTHDAY, OCTOBER 31, 1897 CHARLES P. DALY (PRINTED AT THE REQUEST OF A FEW FRIENDS) 1 I've passed beyond the psalmist's life Of three score years and ten, With little of the cares or strife That mar the course of men. One more decade has made at last Eight measures of life's span; How has this length of years been passed ? Come, answer, if you can. 2 Well, slowly rising, one by one, There comes before my view, Things that I could, and should have done, But which I did not do. Has kindlier actions opened wide A good account as well, And left a balance on my side ? Perhaps-I cannot tell.
