Letter from Samuel May, Jr., Leicester [Mass.], to William Lloyd Garrison, March 18 / [18]68

Writing to William Lloyd Garrison, Samuel May Jr. discusses an unnamed document with which “A.W.W. is so entirely satisfied.” May says her approval of this important document is meaningful. After thanking Garrison for sending an article in the National Anti-Slavery Standard, May talks about another article from the Evening Post that he is enclosing, which “shows … that the inclination to run away from a free country, to where greater advantages are looked for, is developing itself in more than one or two localities.” Mays says this may be a “device” that is “working on the fears of the freedpeople.”
