Her other awards include the British\n9\nRoyal Red Cross Medal, the British Campaign\n10\nMedal, the Medaille de la Reconnaissance\n11\nFrancaise, and the Silver Medal of the\nrolish Red Cross. Unduly modest, the\n12\nItalian born, former debutante who\n13\npioneered in international nursing chose\n14\nto view her honors as awards to the nursing\n15\nprofession rather than to an individual.\n16\nMiss Fitzgerald spent her last years\n17\nat the Peabody Home in the Bronx, N.Y.\n18\nwhere she died on November 10, 1962. In an\n19\ninterview conducted several years before\n20\nher death, she summarized her career, say-\n21\ning: \"I have had a lovely life. 1 was so\n22\nhappy in my work in all those countries\n23\nthat I never took a vacation. Work was\n24\nrecreation\nII\n25"
