Dr. Guillermo Sevilla-Sacasa, Nicaraguan Ambassador to the
United States and Delegate to the IAM, called this morning. After
an exchange of the usual pleasantries, the Ambassador said that as
Dean of the Latin American Diplomatic Corps, he had been commissioned
to invite me to the reception which the Foreign Ministers were giving
for me on Saturday, April 7, which, he said, would be attended by
from 3,000 to 4,000 persons.
The Ambassador, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, also asked
me to invite President Truman to the banquet to be given in his honor
on the same day at the Hotel Carlton.
I thanked the Ambassador on behalf of the President and myself
for the kind invitations and asked him to be good enough to express
my appreciation to his colleagues.
The Ambassador inquired whether I thought it would be possible
for him briefly to see the President to extend to him direct the invi-
tation to the Foreign Ministers' banquet. I said I would be glad to
mention it to the President, but that in view of his very tight
schedule and the visit of President Auriol I was rather doubtful that
a meeting could be arranged. The Ambassador said he realized this
fully.
