MA DEPARTMENT OF STATE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY ARCHIVER "MATIONAL RECORDA AND April 7, 1952 BERVICEA Mr. McWilliams: I have no idea whether this conversation needed to be written up or whether it calls for any action at all. If it was something that came up in the meeting which Mr. Acheson had in the office with Mr. Stikker on Thursday, I am sure that Mr. Scott or Mr. Perkins has the matter in hand. If it came up between Mr. Stikker and Mr. Acheson at one of the dinners, I thought it might just be possible that someone in the Depart- ment would be interested and might need to get in touch with Mr. Harriman's office on the substance of the questions. Mr. Acheson did end his conversation vith Mr. Harriman by saying if we could not do anything about either of these matters that we would be in "very bad shape". I don't think this ought to be in the memorandum proper. BE
