Office of U.S. Chief of Counsel
APO 403
Sept. 10.
Dearest Mother and Daddy,
Please send me immediately via APO 403, four bath
towels and four hand towels. Not necessarily in good tip-top - ehepe- con-
dition, but at least absorbent. I understand that you can send this via
APO if you show the postmastdr this written request of mine.
We flew over to Nuremberg today and are at present in the "Grand"Ho-
tel - really remarkably comfortable. They have done much to restore it and
I have a private room with a bath and occasional hot water. Bur no towels.
I have one dirty unabsorbent hand towel I bought at PX in London. Maybe
when we move into private house billets we can use the owners' towels, but
I think I had better have my own as soon as possible to be safe.
The food here is excellent, and one eats from dishes not trays and has
a tablecloth. But there remains much to be done to restore the hotel. One
climbs to the third floor, then walks across a system of planks to reach the
other side of the building. Quite safe of course, but I think we had better
come home sober.
The trip over was in a "bucket job", i.e. no upholstery but long met-
it benches and conseqdently It was the comparatively semi-opaqüe smooth windows: I felt sorgo-
thrills this time.
It is almost two months since I was here and I note distinctly more
activity on the streets and lots more Germans.

P.S. I lie in bed comfortable with nice little bedside lamp. I look out at
pitch black ruins.
Also send some wire coathangers. They don't weigh$ much. Put in
all you can sans being bulky. I have one.
