Respectfully referred to the
Department of Commerce (Bureau of the
Census) for attention and further reply.
WILLIAM D. HASSETT
Secretary to the President
acs
Ltr. to the President, dtd. 11/30/50,
From: Andrew S XKovacik,
Mayor
of Whiting, Indiana
Whiting,
Indiana.
Complains that the last census omitted about 1500 names but
upon his protest the Census/ Supervisor admitted missing only
235 peope. Says this is not the case and Dist. Suprv., Mr.
7
Ditty, is reluctant to show that his Federal Census takers
made such a blunder. Declares this is a most serious prob-
lem to city as this causes them to revert to 5th class.P.0.;
eliminates their Bd. of Public Works, office of City Judge,
police force and others. Knows they have over 10,000 people
in city of Whiting and appeals to Pres. for help in matter.
