DEPROVED JUL 25 JUL 1946 EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT BUREAU OF THE budget WASHINGTON, 25, D.C. NARA ALIBA JUL 24 1946 4 My dear Mr. Latta: The Congress has enacted H.R. 2287, "For the relief of Susan S. Wiseman." The bill proposes to pay the sum of $1,525.50 to Mrs. Susan S. Wiseman in full settlement of all claims against the United States for personal injuries sustained, and medical and other expenses incurred, as the result of a collision between a Navy ambulance and the car in which she was riding, on De- cember 23, 1943. The medical evidence indicates that complete recovery without any disability is expected. Mrs. Wiseman incurred medical and other expenses in the amount of $131.50. She sustained loss of wages in the amount of $394. The proposed payment, in addition to reimbursing the claimant for the above losses, awards the amount of $1,000 as compensation for pain and suffering. The Navy Department, in reporting on the bill when it was pending before the Congress, concluded that the accident and
