There'll be no more, not at least w/out a fight." Sirica set hearings May 8th on WH motion to quash Jaworski subpoena giving WH 6 more days to respond. Note of WH winning "further delay" in struggle to keep Jaworski from getting tapes led NBC (CBS noted) w/Chancellor noting indications are WH may fight subpoena to Supreme Court. That, Chancellor added, would make history "of a kind never seen before in US. 11 - #2 CBS story reported on Haig appearance before Ervin Comm. staff as he invoked Exec privilege on RN's orders. (Brief ABC/NBC note.) Rather noted AH wouldn't answer questions re: discussing Hughes money w/RMW, Rebozo, RN's brothers, or anyone else and similarly declined to respond re: calling Richardson about Hughes-Rebozo probe 10/18/73, a week before Cox was fired. Rather noted Comm. has learned that RN learned then that Cox had received Rebozo tax records from IRS. CBS noted WH spokesman said RN never intended his waiver of Exec privilege for aides to be open-ended. - AP leads: "Judiciary tentatively agreed to give St. Clair an active role in protecting RN's interest during impchmnt hearings. " All nets noted debate on JSC role that ended as CBS noted w/both Dem efforts to weaken and GOP efforts to strengthen role failing. He'll be able to sit in on all sessions, "question" witnesses -- all nets noted defeat of Dennis amendment to allow cross-examination suggest additional witnesses and object to questions.
