Letter from Lewis F. Laine, Andover, to Amos Augustus Phelps, Aug. 8, 1833

In this letter, Lewis F. Laine informs Amos A. Phelps of Mr. Badger’s position on Phelps’s delivering anti-slavery address at Andover. Although Badger is “willing that the subject should be examined,” he “could not in present circumstances cooperate in inviting [Phelps] to Andover.” If Phelps is to come he should come “upon [his] own responsibility.”
