General Lucius Clay
Continental Can Co.
100 East 42nd Street
New York, New York
Dear General Clay:
I have obtained reservations at the Drake Hotel in
Chicago for the convention period and for two or three
days in advance of the opening of the convention.
I want to be of any help I can in Chicago and even
though I can't be of help, I still want to be there.
I have never attended a political convention and
very much would I like to be able to attend some of the
proceedings in the convention hall, if that is possible,
It would be a great highlight for me if it could be made
possible for me to hear the keynote speech.
I am returning earlier than planned from Europe in
order to take in the Chicago activities. I will arrive
in New York about the 26th of June and will probably
leave for Chicago on the 2nd or 3rd of July.
the
I don't want to ask you to do the impossible or even
anything that under the procedures would be most diffi-
cult or embarrassing to you but if you could help in the
ways above suggested, I would be eternally grateful to
you.
I am writing a similar letter to Mr. Paul Hoffman.
Maybe the two of you can gang up on the organization for
me I am anxious to carry a banner, toot a horn or even
lead a parade.
Kind personal regards.
Sincerely,
Jacqueline Cochran
