Dear Mrs. Palmer:
I can't tell you how much I appreciated your
good letter.
Mr. Rucker and Mr. Clements arrived with
the replica of the Gutenberg Bible. I used the
Old Testament opened at the 20th Chapter of

Bible on which I was sworn in the first time

opened at the Fifth Chapter of Matthew at the
Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount.

The Priest, who was Chaplain of the 129th Field

Artillery, came to the office and I asked him to
make a translation of the Gutenberg text, which
is in Latin, and found that it is almost in con-
formity with the St. James version.
