code, TELCON Mr. Jameson - Secretary Kissinger November 2, 1973 6:00 p.m. K: What I wanted to tell you is the best thing you can do is keep everybody from taking panicky action while invoking the gravity of the situation. If we can alleviate the situation on this trip we will know that soon, if we cannot avoid it, if we can avoid the temptation of these people buttering up Saudi Arabia, saying the government is stupid, and that kind of thing. J : Wehave a meeting here Monday. I've said the same thing before, but I'll repeat that to them. K. If they have grave doubts about the government, if they think we are not doing enough, tell them we will continue to press, believe me we are doing everything we can. We have got to organize pressure to face the onslaught of the Israeli lobby. J : I will prepare them before they go out. K: I will talk with absolute frankness with King Faisal. J : That's what he needs. K : I will ask him what he would risk by easing the embargo for 6 months, he can always go back to it if the situation isn't any better. He can always go back to it. J ; If you could convince him of that, that would be a major step. I will take the line you suggested and we will be in touch with your office around the 15th.
