Bill Timmons/HAK
K:
Bill can you explain to me. What the hell this is about Sonnenfeldt.
It's beyond my comprehension.
you
T:
When did XXplan to submit his thing.
K:
In about two or three weeks.
T:
The Congress would either like to confirm him and have us swear him
in or not swear him for the Treasury post or withdraw him because
Mansfield said it's not fair to single one out and therefore he's holding
about 24 I think nominations up.
K:
Who put him up to that. That does not sound like Mansfield.
T:
No it is. We've talked to him. Brent has talked to him. Everybody
has talked to him and that's what he wants to do. So our options is
either to withdraw him now or go ahead and let him be confirmed.
Frankly I see nothing wrong with having him confirmed by the Senate
and not sworn in.
K:
When is that going to happen.
T:
As soon as we can get approval to go ahead that way.
doesn't
want to do that of course. He says that's unfair to have him confirmed
when they know full well he's not going to be sworn in. What's your
preference on it? You'd prefer to have him just sit where he is. Right?
K:
Until I nominate him but I've got three guys that I need in the Department
that aren't being confirmed. /Is it clear though that if he is confirmed
and not sownr.
T:
K:
It makes absolutely no difference to me. I just want to get my 3 guys
through and it isn't any reflection on Hal not to confirm him now since
the whole Senate gets a chance at confirming him anyway. The Committee
has confirmed him. If the Senate has any doubts about him they can
refuse him when he comes up through the State.
T:
I think we can probably swing him this week probably get him confirmed
because I believe that's the only way we'll clear out the other nominees
we've got is to have Hal confirmed and Felch just won't swear him in
for two weeks until you send him up as another nomination.
K:
OK.
