Noted by ABC/CBS Brunt of attack aimed at USSR, says UPI as he said: "Actions of USSR have amply shownit's socialist in words, imperialist in deeds 11 ABC noted PRC also scoffed at Russ idea to give 10% of defense budget over to developing countries - - "empty words. 11 Chiao also ridiculed SALT I, declaring it "cannot hookwink many or intimidate world, but can only arouse indignation, misgivings and disillusionment. 11 USSR, apparently advised in advance, walked out of UN before Chiao could deliver attack personally. B. Kalb w/CBS AM film of 24th anniversary party held by PRC liaison office and attended by WH officials, diplomats, MCs, scholars, etc. It was "quite an event;' there was a "big turnout, 11 and invitations were "treasured, 11 said Kalb, who termed event and guests as symbolic of US-PRC cordiality. It seems PRC is getting on better w/"old enemies" than w/"old allies, 11 the Soviets. USDA said it can't confirm rumors that PRC has bought an additional 120M bushels of US corn. AP notes Admin has been counting on more plentiful supplies of corn to help boost livestock and put more meat on US tables.
