Ref. #1808-A686 (s) Gentlemente Enclosed herewith you will find an article entitled "Radio Active Material andIndustrial Hazard?", by Dr. Frederick B. Flinn, Ph. Deg Assistant Professor of Physiology in Industrial Hygiene, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, which treats of the so called "radium necrosis" or radium poison- ing cases. The investigation by Dr. Flinn, which formed the basis of his article, has been by far the most thorough and far reach ing voric undertaken on this subject. This article will appeax in one of the early issues of the Journal of the American Medical Association. While it seens that the charge of Fradium poisoning caused the death of several girls (which charge was widely adver- tised through the press a fow months ago) is entirely unfounded, we naturally hesitate - without further investigation - to make the broad statement that radium in luminous matorial in unharmful, although we believe this to be the case. Therefore, in order to be on the safe side, we caution you, if you have not already done so, to order your operators not to point their applications brushes betweon their lips.
