June 26th,1928. Dr. S. C. Lind, Director, School of Chemistry, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minn. Dear Dr. Lind: Thanks for your letter of June 20th, calling our attention to the reaction of Dr. Burnam with reference to the cases recently settled. I am afraid that Dr. Burnam is not fully advised regard- ing the amount of work which has been done to establish the toxicity of sine sulphide. Dr. Cecil K. Hrinker, of the Harvard Public Health Department went into this matter quite thoroughly, and his work is reported in the Journal of Industrial Hygiene, 1922, 4177. We hope to create during the next fow days the Medical Board, the are to study the general condition of the complainants and to eventually determine as to whether these girls are or have been suffer- ing as a result of their employment by US. We feel that it is quite possible that this Board may do a great deal to clarify this entire situation. Unfortunately for us the Insurance Companies will bear only a small part of the total expenses involved with reference to these cases. We also are not at all assured that we will not be confronted with other cases in the future. My belief is that we will not be troubled with such cases until after the report of this Medical Board is made public - but should this Board determine that these girls have suffered as a result of their employment innumerable cases will undoubted- ly come to the foreground. Assuring you that we appreciate the cooperation that you have iven us in this matter, we remain Sincerely yours, Vice President. HHBarker :RH
