Dr. Herman Schlundt,
University of Missouri,
Columbia, Mo.
Dear Dr. Schlundt:
The week before last I had a conference
with Dr. Ewing and Dr. Craver, at which time I called to their
attention the favorable results which Dr. Flinn and his
associates have been getting with patients in the Connecticut
Valley, by the use of Parathermone and Egesterol.
I think they were a little surprised to hear
of some of the results which I could report, only as a matter
of hearsay, but their duriosity was aroused to such an extent
that they decided to use this typo of medication on the four
living girls of the five uhose cases were settled in June, 1928.
Their program has been quite definitely set up now and it
involves the collection of a three days stool prior to the treat-
ment, followed by stools collected during the treatment, at the
close of the treatment and for a period of some weeks after the
treatment has been discontinied.
Ne discussed the matter of
samples of urine, but decided that the stools will probably
throw more light upon the progress being made.
I em having these stools sent to Dr. Turner
for ancinoration, and am instructing him to forward same to you.
I may also state that Dr. Fialla is going to
make ganna ray and expired air tests upon these girls prior to
the initiation of the treatment, and I presume follow the elim-
ination of radium by occasional tests to ascertain what progress
is being made.
I am very hopeful that these girls will be
benefited, and am also hopeful that as a result of this work some
real scientific data will be collected.
While Dr. Flinn has apparently obtained results,
I don't believe that he could present concret data in the nature
of tests to convince anyone of exactly what has happened.
I am sure that you will be glad to cooperate
in this work. Your cooperation, of course, will be with the
Committee, and I am advising you of the situation at their request.
Sinceroly yours,
Vice President.
