February 9,1931. Dr. Herman Schlundt, University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. Dear Dr. Schlundt: Am glad to note from your letter of February 2nd, that Dr. Lorah has altered his attitude with regard to the utilization of the old radium plant for further operations. If we succeed in purchasing the Ramsay material, the matter of the recovery of the radium should go forward under your close supervision with no difficulty. I have made a few rough calculations as to the value of carnotite ore U508 or better. It is my feeling that the investment in ore should not exceed $10.00 por milligram for the radium element contained, and on such a basis you would be justified in paying from $1.00 to $1.25 per point for the uranium oxide contained. While I am not familiar with the current situation with regard to vanadium, still I know that in the past, and in normal times good grades of vanadium have a ready market at around $1.00 per pound V205. Under such circumstances we might be justified in paying a small amount for the vanadium content, as well as the uranium content - say 15 to 25p per pound. I trust that this information will be sufficient to properly guide you in offering an equitable price for this material. Sincerely yours, HHBarker: RH
