the tozie proporties of brushes, solvents, or sine sulphide, the well-recognized
Mological activity of radiun lends us inevitably to rogard it with suspicion.
We have not been able to find accounto of necrotic procosses in the bones of
persons similarly employed elseshoro. We have, however, undoubted proof of 02°
cessive exposure to radiation in your workors, as evidenced by the abnormal con-
dition of their bloods, and by the fogged dental fllms. There is, in addition,
evidence of an air-borne route by which redium itsolf may be absorbed. How it is
exactly that these two processes - external radiation or a mlow, long continued
absorption of minute quantities of radium - alone or in combination, have produced
the bone destruction we are unnble at present to demonstrate.
In
viou,
horever,
of the effects of radium on bone alrendy in the literature, in view of the
over-exposure to radiation which we have demonstrated in your plant, and finally,
in view of the possibility of en actual absorption of redium through inhalation,
we boliove that the burdon 01 proof rests with the person who would mintain that
radium has not in nome way caused these necroses of the jam, as an effect hitherto
not obsonved under these conditions of exposure.
