In front is the Cam ; on the farther bank are trees to the left and then a long, low building inscribed Foster University Boat House, with adjacent buildings and then more trees. A bit of the near bank is seen on the extreme right. On the left, in the shadow of the large tree, are two rowing boats in the water.

Towards the left is the Porta del Popolo, and in the middle of the square is the obelisk, the top of which is cut off by the edge of the plate. Round its base and near the foot of the plate are a number of cabs waiting for hire, and other vehicles.

From left to right we see the Charing Cross Railway Bridge, Lion Brewery, Shot Tower, Waterloo Bridge, and several chimneys and spires. In the foreground, towards the right is Cleopatra's Needle, partly hidden by a tree. There is a tall chimney 13 mm. to left of Cleopatra's Needle. There are no reflections under the boats except a few lines beneath the sail.

Water on the left, with a man fishing. Above, on the same side, trees and a group of boys undressing to bathe. More to the right a second angler standing near two detached trees. This subject was etched on the plate which had previously been used for Wood Lane, Dodgson number 63, traces of which are still visible in the light parts of Dodgson number 53. Number 63 should, accordingly, have been placed at an earlier stage of the work of 1899 than number 53.
