1. Situation in Brief:
By dark on 15 January, the assault elements of the U.S. I Corps
had advanced to a general line: Paranjang-Osan-Kumnyangjang The only
enemy contact occurred at Kumnyangjang where a hostile battalion suppor-
ted by intense mortar fire engaged elements of the 15th U.S. RCT. This
enemy force broke contact after a 1 1/2 hour fight, and withdrew north.
The attack was resumed by the U.S. I Corps at 0700/16 (KT), and had car-
ried to within 3 miles of Suwon by 1245 hours. No serious opposition was
reported. The 8th ROK and 2d U.S. Divisions completed the withdrawal to
new defense positions, approximately 12 miles south of Wonju, without
hostile interference. Other than patrol action, the only engagement along
the Yongwol-Mungyong axis occurred 4 miles east of Tanyang, where ele-
ments of the 7th U.S. Infantry Division repulsed an enemy attack of un-
known strength. Reconnaissance elements of the 187th U.S. Airborne RCT
engaged an estimated 2 enemy companies, 6 miles southeast of Tanyang,
and inflicted some 30 casualties before withdrawing. The Greek Battalion
launched an attack at 0700/16 (KT) from Mungyong to clear an enemy force
reported north of the town, but the results are unreported. Carrier air-
craft flew 297 sorties on 15 January, and U.N. aircraft under FEAF control
flew 661 sorties. (FECOM) (SECRET)
2. Weather:
Broken middle and high clouds with broken to overcast low clouds.
Visibility good except in snow showers. Forecast for 1800/16 (KT) to 1800/
17 (KT): Gradual clearing to scattered low clouds by 1200/17 (KT) in north
Korea. Broken to overcast middle and low clouds and occasional light snow

3. United Nations Situation:
GROUND
a. U.S. I Corps: Elements of the assault echelon reached a general
line from Paranjang, to Osan, to Kumnyangjang by the evening of 15 January.
Air attacked numerous groups of enemy in the area to the north. Elements
of the 27th U.S. RCT advanced 2 miles north of Osan by 1400/15 (KT) without
