Weather: Scattered to overcast low, middle, and high clouds throughout the period. Forecast: Scattered low, middle, and high clouds over all Korea except in the southwest, where they will be broken. Visibility six miles. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Hostile groups of up to battalion size offered stubborn resistance in the western and central sectors and counterattacked sharply west of Yonchon against 1st US Cavalry Division units. Enemy mortar and artillery fire that fell on UN positions across the front showed a marked increase. An unidentified aircraft dropped eight 120-mm. mortar shells five miles southwest of Chorwon on 5 August. Three minefields were encountered in the eastern sectors. Air observed tank traps and antitank ditches filled in, or being filled in, 10 miles northwest of Yonchon® It also observed tracks of tanks or SP guns leading into the woods in the same area. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND: a. General: Friendly patrols advanced four to six miles across the Imjin River in the west and up to seven miles on the east coast. The 25th Canadian Brigade was attached to the 1st US Cavalry Division, and the Turkish Brigade was relieved by the 15th Regiment of the 3rd US Infantry Division in Chorwon, and then moved to positions between Chorwon and Kumhwa.
