1. Weather:
Weather during the period consisted of scattered to broken low
and middle clouds with snow showers. Visibility lowered to 2 to 4 miles
in showers. Battle area temperatures ranged from 20 to 38 degrees.
Forecast: Scattered to broken clouds with snow showers. Visibility will
lower to 1 to 3 miles in the west central sector. Battle area temperatures
will range from 17 to 37 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET)
2. Enemy Situation:
Enemy groups of squad to company size continued to probe UN posi-
tions across the front, forcing a slight withdrawal in the 1st British Com-
monwealth Division sector on 20 January. Mortar and artillery fire contin-
ued moderately heavy in the X US Corps sector. An unidentified convention-
al aircraft strafed 45th US Division positions northwest of Chorwon at
180455 (KT), then flew northward. Two unidentified single-engine aircraft
(possibly IL-2 type) dropped one bomb in the 9th ROK Division sector north-
east of Chorwon at 191420 (KT); no casualties or damage reported. The
adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 17-20 January is 4g 333, of which
2,925 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET)
3. United Nations Situation:
ARMY:
a. General: UN forces repulsed light probing attacks and Bri-
tish units reoccupied a position northeast of Panmunjom from which they
had withdrawn. UN patrols continued to engage numerous small groups in
