Weather: Scattered low clouds with occasional snow showers. Visibility unre- stricted. Maximum battle area temperature 27 degrees, minimum 10 degrees Forecast: Low clouds becoming broken along the west coast. Visibility restricted 2 to 5 miles in snow showers. Maximum battle area temperature 28 degrees, minimum 12 degrees. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: The heaviest enemy activity, an attack by an estimated two enemy com- panies, was directed against UN forces east of the Pukhan River. Other prob ing attacks, ranging in size from squad to an estimated 100 men, were re- ported across the entire front. Numerous enemy groups clashed with friend ly patrols throughout the period. Several enemy SP guns and armored vehicle were sighted on the western front. Light to heavy mortar and artillery fire was directed against UN forces across the front. The 37th Chinese Commu- nist Army (minus) and two unidentified Cavalry Divisions have been dropped from the enemy order of battle in Korea. An unidentified single-engine air- craft dropped one bomb and strafed positions in rear of the 9th ROK Division on 17 February. The adjusted total of vehicle sightings for 14-17 February is 3g 841, of which 3g 042 were southbound. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN forces resumed active patrolling on 16 Februar and reported contacts with numerous enemy groups. Enemy probing attacks were repulsed all along the front. Heaviest activity was in the west-central sector, where outpost elements of the 3d ROK Division were forced to with- draw in the face of an attack by an estimated two enemy companies. (FECOM) (SECRET)
