Bank has been asked by Russell to see what he can find relevant
to transfers of funds.
Herbert Elliston of Washington Post said in Russell's presence
he feared the Lobby was too big for the Post to investigate.
Edgar Mowrer took a trip to see Chiang and came back favorable.
Paul Smith of San Francisco Chronicle did same. Question: Who
paid for these trips?
Memorandum of March 19 from Russell. A memorandum of March 19
says that Rankin in Formosa says that some of the officials in
the Chiang Government feel that the Nationalist Government is
ill-advised to get into the United States politics. Can this
be checked with Tankin.
