Leading all nets, Dean characterized by nets as man who provided "biggest break" (ABC) for Wgate prosecutors. "RN's chief accuser" (CBS) had been haunted by prospect of jail, said CBS, and now sought delay in sentencing. But NBC said Sirica believed Dean had received all the breaks he was entitled to. ABC/NBC noted letters from Dash and Ervin attesting to Dean's cont'd cooperation, w/ABC noting Dash personally present for sentencing. Dean given one month to prepare personal affairs. All nets noted his future testimony, w/ABC observing perhaps even for "that final forum" in Senate trial of RN. Chancellor noted Dean makes 14th former WH aide who pled guilty or convicted, w/50 men in all having been accused of Wgate-related crime. AP leads: "WH cast RN in role of underdog" in what Warren termed "uphill struggle a political struggle" to avoid impchmnt. All nets noted and, in 3 or #4 stories, reported RN's "very good" spirits. ABC said WH for 1st time acknowledged what everyone else's been saying about impch prospects, and "shift in emphasis" raised speculation WH will try holding GOP/southern Dems in line by appealing to constituents. "Almost certainly,' said ABC, there 11 be no inflammatory remarks about Hill or MCs. CBS said new emphasis comes after RN's listened to tapes for 2 days, and (joined by ABC) noted RN/Rebozo cruise Thurs. nite. NBC reported Sr. WH official said situation is "serious damn serious." CBS said 1st glimmerings of RN strategy could be seen. -- Over film of Hauser, McCahill, all nets noted WH "fully complied" (CBS) w/Sirica timetable, delivering 13 more tapes, among them talks immediately after breakin. While ABC/NBC briefly noted, CBS reported Jaworski had singled this batch out as "crucial." All nets noted Hauser said "yes, sir" when Sirica demanded remaining tapes by next Wed.
