I asked FAA to summarize for you the history of the smoke detector/sprinkler issue.
In 1993, FAA did not proceed with a rulemaking because of the 6 to 1 cost to benefit ratio.
Based on our discussion with Leon and George, FAA agreed to reconsider
promulgating a regulation on sprinklers and smoke detectors.
The recommendation on whether or not to proceed will be made by June 21. We
can probably get a "reading" by June 7, on which direction DoT and FAA are "leaning."
Let me know what else you need on this.
