CABINET MEETING, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, 1947
THE PRESIDENT
Disposed of issuing Presidential invitations to group to discuss
Marshall Plan. Cabinet agreed invitations should issue from Steelman.
Asked Krug to discuss natural resources report.
KRUG
Summarized our position - thought should be given to conservation
of
Wheat, coal, fertilizer, machinery (mining, farming), steel.
HARRIMAN & ANDERSON
Both said Krug did fine job and developed splendid cooperation
with their departments.
KRUG
The war has taught us that the recommendations in the report will
avail nothing if we do not get qualified people to carry them out. It
would require this to be effective.
FORRESTAL & HARRIMAN
Suggested setting up a miniature WPB.
LOVETT
Supports Krug's position. Suggests getting John Blandford to
set up the organization. Lauded the cooperative spirit of technicians
of govt departments in pitching into current problems.
HANNEGAN
This should be put across to the people. It reflects the leader-
Ship of the President.
